At some point, you?ll finally attain what you might have all the time longed for. But when that day comes, do not look down on those that belittled you. Forgive and forget.

3. Stay humble. Do not criticize others once you see that you are turning into extra profitable than they are. Try to assist them. Inject your optimistic aura into their personalities. Once you give, you?ll yield again equal or greater rewards.

4. Are you prepared to begin the journey? Begin it with the braveness and need to enhance your life. Survive and go through it with persistence, enthusiasm, and optimistic thinking. Finish it with a convincing bang of accomplishment and with the need to assist others succeed as well.

Detoxify Your Communication - Improve Your Relationships (Part ...

Here is the follow-up to yesterday?s article on detoxifying your communication. JoJo Tabares, Healthy Communication Expert, brings you tips today on how to develop healthier communication in your relationships?let?s read:
3. How can you detoxify your communication?
* Check your attitude
The first step in detoxifying your communication or your words is to check your attitude before you speak. Are you angry with someone right now? Make sure you don?t take it out on those around you. Take care not to spill your venom all over the innocent.
* Soften your voice
Whether you are upset, hurried, harried or just naturally gruff, make your voice soft and gentle. The Bible has a lot to say on this topic. Here are a few scriptures: ?Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.? Colossians 4:6 ?Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.? Proverbs 16:24
* Relax your face and smile
There saying, ?Notify your face? comes to mind. Some people don?t mean to look mean but they just don?t naturally go through life with a big fat grin on their face. Others are in a bad mood. Simply relaxing your face and smiling will help you soften your voice and help your attitude.
* Insert a smiley face in your email or Facebook
Those smiley faces are a great invention for email and social media. Use them! They help to soften the written word where our ?listeners? cannot see our face, hear our tone of voice or see your sparkling eyes and gestures to help them evaluate the meaning behind our words. Use any characters at your disposal to soften and detoxify your words.
* choose your words wisely
Finally, choose your words wisely. Avoid words that inflame: hate, always, never, stupid, idiot, etc.
?You never take me anywhere!?
?You always do this to me!?
?I hate that song!?
Words like always and never imply that the person does evil things on purpose or has never done anything good. If you search your heart, you?ll probably find that just isn?t true, but if you use those words, it will always inflame the other party. ;D
Our words can be toxic whether we intend for them to be or not. Unfortunately, the effect is the same either way. Our words can inflame, accuse, blame and convict. However, there is a way to detoxify our communication by checking our attitude at the door, softening our voice, relaxing our face, smiling and choosing our words wisely.

'Mad Men' cast talk hiatus, 'terrible' reality TV

Many things have happened in the world in the 17 months since "Mad Men" last graced AMC -- star January Jones now has a 6-month-old baby, and co-star John Slattery says (tongue-in-cheek, of course) that there was even time for "gender reassignment surgery."

But however they want to characterize it, the fact is, it's been too long -- a fact that will be rectified Sunday, when "Men" returns with a two-hour season premiere. Slattery, Jones, fellow stars Jon Hamm, Vincent Kartheiser, Jared Harris, Kiernan Shipka and show creator Matt Weiner joined TODAY's Matt Lauer in the studio Monday to talk about that return ... along with a few other juicy details.

"It's an unfortunately long hiatus," said Slattery. "But I think now you can DVR shows, you can actually find the show in ways you couldn't before. So we're actually hoping it whetted peoples' appetites more."

Weiner noted that one of the show's appeals is that it never shows people in black-or-white shades; everyone lives in a world of gray. "It's also not judgmental," he said. "There's something about it that embraces on some level that we are flawed people.... People behave badly; it's why the 10 commandments are there."

Speaking of people behaving badly on TV, Hamm discussed his recent dust up with Kim Kardashian and reality TV in general (he called reality TV stars "idiots"; Kardashian retaliated by saying his remarks were "careless"). Hamm stood by his comments, and even got some support from a co-star.

"It's a part of our culture that I certainly don't identify with and I don't really understand the appeal of it other than that car-crash sensibility," said Hamm. "It's not something that I partake in or enjoy, but it is what it is and here we are."

Kartheiser added, "I agree with everything he said. I mean, I think our society enjoys to turn on the television and seeing someone who is awful; they can say, 'At least I'm not as terrible as that person.'"

"There are a lot of channels on the dial," said Hamm. "And those channels have to be filled up with things. ... Different strokes for different folks."

Undoubtedly reality TV will outlast even "Mad Men," which is expected to run for seven seasons (Sunday's episode kicks off the fifth). But even with that deadline looming, don't ask Weiner just how he plans to end anything: "For me, I think that they want the tension alleviated, that there is a plan or something, but for me I really don't even want to think about it ending yet."

Not even one with a fiery plane crash?

"We can't afford that," said Weiner. "There would be the reflection of a fiery crash in a window."

"Mad Men" returns on AMC on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.

BBC Horizon's Truth About Exercise | healinginmotion.org

Last month BBC Horizon ran a programme entitled ?The Truth About Exercise?. In it Dr Michael Mosley travelled the country speaking to an assortment of Exercise Scientists. One of the first points made was that it takes a lot of exercise to burn calories. In fact, the example provided was that to burn off a cappuccino, a muffin and a banana, one would have to jog around a track for about 55 mins! Therefore, to stand any chance of losing weight, we must control what we eat.

Fortunately, exercise can have benefits even when no weight is lost. One of the benefits mentioned was the production of an enzyme that helps redistribute fat in the body and sends it to the muscles where it?s burned. This helps reduce the chance of getting atherosclerosis and possibly death from cardiovascular disease. Other health factors that can be improved are insulin sensitivity and the body?s maximum oxygen consumption (VO2 max). Insulin sensitivity is important because it means that blood glucose levels can decrease more rapidly thereby requiring less secretion of insulin by the pancreas. This reduces the likelihood of developing Type 2 diabetes. As for VO2 max, it?s been found to be a good marker of health and longevity.

Next, Dr Mosley met Jamie Timmons, professor of ageing biology at Birmingham University, and was told how training for 7 mins 3 times a week could deliver many of the health and fitness benefits of hours of conventional exercise! The training is called High Intensity Training (HIT) and resembles interval training. Interval training has been around for a long time and has been used by athletes to increase cardiovascular efficiency and increase tolerance to the build-up of lactic acid. The HIT protocol used on the programme was done on a static bike and consisted of: 2 mins warm-up, 20 secs full-out, 2 mins gentle, 20 secs full-out, 2 mins gentle and 20 secs full-out. This added up to a whopping 7 mins and was done 3 times a week for 4 weeks. It?s thought that this type of exercise can appeal to those that are time poor and need to get it done quickly or simply don?t enjoy it and so want to get it over and done with swiftly?hmmmmmm? It?s at this point that I became curious about exactly how many people fell into this category?so I did a little survey among some of my clients.

First I asked them whether they did any exercise or took part in any sports. Surprisingly 95% of them did!

I then asked them how many times a week they exercised or took part in sports. Again I was impressed?an average of 3.6 times a week. I started wondering whether they were trying to please or impress me? Apparently 80% of the population doesn?t exercise regularly!

Finally, I asked them why they exercised? This was the last surprise?the most popular answer was because they enjoyed it?it made them feel good! Other popular reasons were for fitness, health (hypertension, diabetes, back pain) and weight loss.

So unfortunately there didn?t seem to be any takers for HIT. The claims are that HIT can give around 24% improvement in insulin sensitivity and 10% increase in VO2 max. After 4 weeks Dr Moseley did in fact improve his insulin sensitivity by exactly 24% but had no change in his VO2 max. His inability to improve his VO2 max was put down to genetics. Apparently research has shown that 20% of the population don?t respond to endurance training.

What do I think about the HIT programme? Well, it paints exercising as a chore, but as the survey showed, most people get more from exercise or sports than just an improved insulin sensitivity?they enjoy it, it makes them feel good?possibly because of the endorphin release or a sense of achievement or accomplishment, maybe even because of social interactions? The HIT programme didn?t place much emphasis on fitness but other HIT protocols have. Gibala?s studies have shown benefits but his protocol was longer and a lot more gruelling?definetly not for everyone. There are many components to fitness: endurance, strength, flexibility, agility, etc and I suppose people in the survey were happy to focus on particular aspects of this.

My main issue with the HIT protocol is its intensity. Pedalling ?hell for leather? without a warm-up (not one that can be recognised as one anyway) seems like a recipe for disaster. As a physiotherapist, I was a little uneasy watching Dr Moseley bounce around on his bike whilst pedalling as hard as he could for 20 secs?he should have known better after pulling a hamstring earlier in the programme whilst trying to sprint without any earlier warm-up?who knows, he may have felt comfortable doing it because he was surrounded by scientists? Surely this is not something that should be recommended to the sedentary masses?

The main drive of the HIT protocol seemed to be on health (primarily insulin sensitivity) and I think there are better, safer and more convenient ways of achieving this. New research published in the journal Diabetes Care has concluded that after meals, regular short bouts of light-intensity or moderate-intensity walking lower glucose and insulin levels. The subjects were asked to walk around for 2 mins every 20 mins. The light intensity walking decreased blood glucose and insulin levels by 24% compared to uninterrupted sitting. That figure is exactly the same as the one achieved by Dr Moseley after after the HIT protocol.

If you enjoy exercise or sport and are happy with the fitness you?re achieving, keep it up! If you don?t enjoy exercise or sport and are mainly doing it for health or weight loss, you?re unlikely to keep going very long. My advice would be to focus on increasing your movement through activities of daily living?this was also talked about on Horizon but it seemed to get much less attention than HIT?in my opinion it?s where the real revolution lies?check in next week to find out more?

Kohli fires India to vital win with 183

Virat Kohli smashed a career-best 183 to power India to a crucial six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup one-day tournament in Dhaka on Sunday.

The in-form batsman hit one six and 22 fours in his explosive 148-ball knock. It was his third century in four matches and helped India achieve the stiff 330-run target with 13 balls to spare.

The Indian innings marked their highest successful chase in one-dayers, surpassing 326 against England at Lord's in 2002.

Earlier, Pakistan's Nasir Jamshed hit a 104-ball 112 for his maiden one-day century and Mohammad Hafeez made a 113-ball 105 to help post a challenging total.

Pakistan made it to the final despite the defeat, finishing their league engagements with nine points from three games, while India (eight points from three games) and Bangladesh (four from two) are still in contention.

Bangladesh need to win their final league match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday to knock India out.

"Sachin (Tendulkar) and Virat batted brilliantly while Rohit (Sharma) can be a good finisher," said India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The day-night match was the first between the two teams since the high-profile World Cup semi-final at Mohali last March, which India won on their way to clinching the showpiece title.

Kohli and opener Tendulkar put India on course for the remarkable victory with a 133-run stand for the second wicket after the second-ball dismissal of Gautam Gambhir.

Tendulkar, who became the first player to score 100 international centuries on Friday, looked in good form.

He hit a brisk 48-ball 52 with the help of one six and five fours before being caught by Younis Khan in the slips off spinner Saeed Ajmal.

Kohli, whose previous best was an unbeaten 133, received valuable support from Sharma who made an impressive 68 in a 172-run stand for the third wicket.

"I still can't believe what happened out there, honestly," said Kohli, who was named man of the match.

"I'm really satisfied. To be able to chase 330 against this bowling is satisfying."

Left-handed Jamshed and Hafeez had dominated the Indian bowling attack as they added 224 runs, Pakistan's best for the opening wicket against India in one-day internationals.

"It was an excellent innings by Kohli, the best I have ever seen," said Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq.

"Credit goes to their batsmen. It's easy out there under lights but 329 is still a good score."

Pakistan scored 73 in the last 10 overs, with Younis hitting a 34-ball 52 with the help of six fours before falling to a superb one-handed catch by Suresh Raina in the covers off paceman Praveen Kumar.

Shahid Afridi (nine) completed 7,000 one-day runs before being caught by Kohli off Irfan Pathan.

Hafeez was the first to complete his century, pushing Kumar to mid-off for a single. He struck one six and nine fours before being trapped leg-before by seamer Ashok Dinda.

Jamshed reached the century in Kumar's next over with a single and then hit the bowler for a six. He also cracked 10 fours.

India, who failed to defend 289 in their last match against Bangladesh on Friday, again put in a below-par performance with none of their bowlers able to keep pressure on the Pakistani openers.

NOT LONG AGO, my husband decided to celebrate a special day by surprising me with a romantic vacation for just the two of us. He needed me to have some forewarning, so he created a cover story.

His cover plan was to have several girlfriends pretend they were taking me to NYC for a few days. At the airport, I would learn the real plan, and I would be whisked away for a week with my husband.

As the details were being discussed, an insightful teenager became privy to this plot and said innocently: ?What if she?s disappointed? What if she would prefer to go with her girlfriends and not her husband? Then that would not really be a good surprise.?

So many people agreed with this possible complication that the plan was changed.

As it turns out, very many people my age?50 or older, married for decades, maybe raising kids, paying down a mortgage and caught up in the petty details of daily life?readily admit that they would rather spend time away with their friends than with their spouses.

So this begs the question: How can couples keep the love alive?

BE RESPECTFUL

First and foremost, retain mutual respect. When you respect someone, there are actions you would not take. You would not spit in the face of someone like Mother Teresa or scream insults at your favorite neighbor.

Why, then, is it so easy to cross decent human boundaries in the confines of our own home? Our excuses are typically lame: Maybe someone left the kitchen messy, or deleted a carefully recorded TV show.

Of course, respect also can be lost in more serious ways if couples are caught lying to each other or if infidelity becomes an issue.

When your respect for each other gets tainted, as it most certainly will from time to time, be sure to repair the damage. The greater the damage, the more time you will need to make amends.

These respect issues are not insurmountable if the couple is dedicated to learning from them and moving beyond them. If you are at fault, then prepare to take these bigger respect issues very seriously. Get help, and take the time and energy you need to rebuild that partnership.

COMMUNICATE BETTER

Repairing damage requires good communication.

Two books that help couples with communication problems are ?The Five Love Languages? by Gary Chapman and ?Getting the Love You Want? by Harville Hendrix.

I find the love language theory helpful in almost any relationship. The idea is that people love in different ways. Chapman describes five different love languages:

1. Words of recognition
2. Acts of service
3. Giving gifts
4. Physical affection
5. Time together.

All of these are great ingredients for a good relationship, and it can help to discover which ones are most important to you?and which ones are most important to your spouse.

As for Hendrix?s book, it provides exercises to help ensure that arguments don?t just run wild. The exercises teach you to validate that you have understood what your partner is trying to say, even if you disagree.

STAY CURIOUS

Another way to keep love alive is to retain a spirit of curiosity. In my marital counseling sessions, I cannot tell you how many times I hear ?I know what he/she is going to say? or ?We?ve been together so long we have nothing else to talk about.?

These comments amaze me because life is ever evolving, and we, as humans, are continuing to grow and change in ways that are unpredictable. I?ll never forget listening to my husband speak to a convention crowd of more than 1,000 people.

He was speaking about a topic we had never discussed. I remember thinking: ?How does he know all this? I know everything he knows, and he can?t possible know all this information.?

Later, I had to accept that I didn?t know everything about him. There continue to be parts that are unexplored in every relationship. We must be open and curious about each other.

HAVE FUN

Another key to keeping love alive through the years is to remember to play. Personal health guru Dr. Oz says having sex twice a week extends your life by three years. If you are not enjoying your sex life, then find out what is going wrong.

?Playing? as a couple is not just about having sex, though. It is also about finding moments just the two of you can enjoy.

When couples who aren?t yet married describe to me what they do and where they go, they describe really fun activities and adventures.

On the other hand, many married couples have no more excitement than a trip to Home Depot or the bank.

I think it takes at least 15 minutes a day of good, private communication and at least one fun date a week to keep the sparks flying.

Finally, if you were wondering about my surprise week away?it was wonderful. It was truly a gift to me, because instead of creating a fully packed week of museums and exploration, which is what my husband would have loved, he gave me a week of tropical rest.

He gave me what he knew I wanted?no responsibility, no place to go and no agenda to meet.

With all due respect to my fabulously fun girlfriends, I truly enjoyed a week alone at a romantic getaway with just my husband of 20-plus years.
